With a glass staircase or roof deck made of walkable glass, your home will definitely stand out. It gives a stylish and luxurious look. In addition, a lot of natural sunlight comes in when you install walkable glass at your skylight or roof terrace.
Walkable glass can be used in many situations. Examples of applications include stair treads, landings, skylights, basement lighting, a balcony, roof terraces, or glazed glass voids. The following are some examples of applications of walkable glass.
When you use walkable glass incorporated into your roof terrace, you do not waste valuable space on your terrace. Therefore, a glass roof is often a nicer solution than a skylight. A skylight is "lost space," the roof can no longer be used as a roof terrace. Perhaps you already have existing outdated skylights, then they can be nicely replaced with walkable glass.
By adding walkable glass to your basement, you create more usable feet of living space. Consider extending your basement into your backyard. This creates space for a glass floor in your patio (see image). If there is sufficient daylight in your home, for example through a skylight, you can also incorporate walkable glass into your interior floor.
Walkable glass is excellent as a glass floor or staircase. A glass floor offers an extreme spatial effect and provides a sea of light. A great application (see photo below) is to use walkable glass in your stairwell. This way you can continue to use the space above it efficiently and keep the stairwell wonderfully light.
Because the glass is used to stand on or walk on, it needs to be very sturdy. It can even be used to look down from the 30th floor through the floor, for example. We calculate the thickness of the walkable glass for you based on two factors:
At AA Glass, we can supply walkable glass in the following thicknesses:
For advice on the proper size and thickness of walkable glass, contact us by phone or the quote form. A specialized staff member will help you with all your questions.
Walkable glass is heavy, this is something you must take into account when assembling. One square meter of 34 mm glass plate weighs over 80 kg. We recommend supporting the glass sheet on 4 sides, with the depth of the support being at least 30 mm. It is also important that the glass rests on wood or rubber. When walkable glass rests on hard material such as metal or stone, cracks may occur under heavy loads.
To guarantee perfect installation, AA Glas works exclusively with its own fitters. They are qualified for this type of work and have the right tools. Because of the weight, a crane is usually needed to get walkable glass in place. Fortunately, we have access to compact lifting cranes that also get every sheet of glass in the right place indoors.
AA Glass can supply walkable glass in a variety of designs:
