Double glazing consists of two panes of glass joined together in a special way with a cavity. The cavity between the two panes of glass provides the extra insulating effect. This cavity contributes to the extra insulating effect of the glass and prevents cold bridges, which minimizes heat transfer between inside and outside. By filling the cavity with a gas filling, even better insulation values are achieved, making the glass even more efficient in insulating.
The most advanced type of double glazing is HR++ glass, with a U-value (insulation value) of about 1.2. In comparison, single-pane glass has a much higher insulation value of 5.6. HR++ glass represents an improved version of traditional double glazing and offers significantly better thermal insulation. This is achieved by applying a thin coating to one side of the glass, which allows solar rays to pass through and reflect heat into the home. In addition, HR++ glass uses a standard noble gas between the panes of glass, instead of ordinary air, which adds to the insulation quality.
The more pluses the better the insulation. Replacing "ordinary" double glazing with HR++ will easily save 300 m³ of gas per year. Here is the overview of the different generations of double glazing:
When windows are replaced, ventilation is often not carefully considered. It has been proven that insulating without ventilating can be unhealthy. With insulation, the air in the home or room becomes warm and moist from such things as people breathing. Moist air is more difficult to heat than drier air, so ventilation also saves energy. Ventilation can easily be achieved by installing ventilation grilles on the new glass. These grilles are adjustable with a lever so that the amount of air can be regulated.
Double glazing, also known as insulating glass, can be customized with tinted frames to improve the aesthetic appearance of your windows. The frames, which hold the layers of glass together, can be tinted to match existing window frames. Whether you have black or dark-colored window frames, opting for matching tinted frames creates a seamless look. Choose from a wide range of colors to give windows a unique and stylish look.
In addition to colored frames, rods can also be installed in the double glazing during production. This creates a lattice pattern on the glass, creating a beautiful and warm look. Two types of rods are available: cross rods, which remain visible and can be supplied in different colors, and simulated rods that are finished during assembly to mimic the appearance of individual window panes.
When it comes to double glazing, quality varies significantly between manufacturers. At AA Glass, we choose only high-quality products to ensure durability and performance. While many manufacturers offer warranties of 10 to 15 years, these often include numerous exclusions. Additional costs such as installation, glass battens, sealant and other materials are often not included, which can lead to unexpected expenses. At AA Glass, all of these costs are included in the price, eliminating surprises. We believe in providing high-quality products and expert installation services to prevent future problems.
AA Glass can also provide double glazing as heat or sound proof double glazing. Hot summers can raise the temperature in a home or office considerably. During hot summers, sunrooms can become extremely hot. Heat or solar-reflective double glazing ensures that heat is reflected and does not enter the home. AA Glass provides heat-reflective double glazing of the highest quality. If you suffer from noise pollution from a highway or airport, for example, soundproof double glazing is a good choice. Soundproof glass blocks sounds while preserving natural light.
AA Glass specializes in replacing single-pane glass with ultra-thin insulating glass, ideal for historic properties where there is normally little room for double or triple glazing. Our proprietary product, "Old Style" monument glass, mimics the look of single glass with similar distortion, but adds modern insulation values for improved energy performance.
Double glazing is also known as "thermopane glass. However, this is not another word for double glazing, but the name of a German company that first marketed double glazing in the 1950s.
